Dear Voter:

Yes, it is true. "I am running for the open seat on the Oxnard City Council." Bedford, my husband, is retiring from City Council after his term expires in November.

Last year, the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce selected me as "Woman of the Year". Why? I am a community leader and businesswoman, experienced with budgets and decision-making. I am dedicated to addressing issues affecting our youth, seniors, and family. I am sensitive to the needs of the disabled.

My community involvement includes providing scholarship and educational opportunities for our youth, participating in the cultural diversity training with our police department, actively supporting candidates who will enhance our quality of life and serving the community.

Throughout my career, I championed change of inadequate policies, unfair hiring practices, and the betterment of human resource needs of the community. As a result, when I ran for the Oxnard Union High School District Board in 1998, I received overwhelming support. In 2002, I was the top vote recipient. It is now my desire to serve you as your councilwoman. My experience as a college administrator, realtor, trustee and community leader has prepared me to represent you well.

Oxnard is a beautiful place to live, work and play. As your councilwoman, I will work to maintain our City as the jewel that it is in the County, provide needed services for youth, seniors and the disabled and the appropriate staff to keep our City safe and attractive.

I would appreciate your vote on November 2. Together we can improve and build our community one bridge at a time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Irene Pinkard
Candidate for Oxnard City Council
